What is recorded here
Triangular granite milestone of c.1760 inscribed ‘Dublin 24 [miles]’ to one face and ‘Bglass [Baltinglass] 11’ on the other, both in informal lowercase lettering but now largely indistinct due to wear and damage. Under both of these inscriptions are the more formally inscribed uppercase letters ‘CW’, the latter possibly added at a later date. The milestone is one of at least four which still survive on the stretch of the N81 road between Hollywood Cross Roads and Baltinglass.
Milestones of this type are becoming increasing rare, most having been swept away by road widening schemes.
