Mound in Derrygorman

Mound

What is recorded here

Situated in what was formerly the N corner of a field, this mound of earth and stones measures 8m NW-SE x 5m NE-SW x 2m in height. The adjacent NE-SW field boundary has been removed but it curved outwards at this point (2nd edition OS map) and it was probably this feature that is referred to by the Kerry Archaeological Survey as a semi-circular 'ring' encircling the mound on the W side. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 220. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 4 August 2013

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
