Situated on a ridge running NE-SW. A massive granite boulder (dims. 4.3m x 3.2m; H 2.4m), supposed to be the hurling ball of Fionn Mac Cumhaill; possibly a glacial erratic. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). Likely dating to the Bronze Age, the Mottee Stone may have functioned as a territorial or ritual marker. Local folklore associates it with Fionn Mac Cumhaill of the Fenian cycle, reflecting its integration into later Gaelic myth.
