Kilfrush is a circular flat-topped motte in County Limerick, Ireland, standing four metres above a surrounding fosse and measuring eighty-two metres across. Straight trenches once cut east and west into the mound, likely channeling water from the Camoge river through the defence and back again. The ditches are nearly silted now, but the outline still emerges clearly in aerial views, preserving the shape of a place where river water may have flowed around human ambition before forgetting the way.

Mound described in 1942-3 as following; 'This structure consists of a circular flat-topped mound around which there is a fosse. The sides of the mound are steeply sloped. Its maximum height over the fosse-bottom is 13' [4m] and the overall diameter is 270' [82m]. Running into the fosse on the east side is the remains of a straight fosse or trench. This comes from the bank of the river Camoge, which is only a very short distance from the monument. This is nearly silted up. There is a similar trench running out of the fosse on the west side, and this is also silted up. It is probable that the fosse on the east side brought water from the river to the fosse of the mound. The water was returned to the river by the other trench which connects with a stream, which in turn connects with the river a little further down stream' (O'Kelly 1942-3, 243).
