Monumental structure in Shelmaliere Commons (shelburne By., Carrick Ed)

Located on the spine of the NE-SW ridge of Forth Mountain with a wide view out to the W and N. An obelisk of granite with a limestone base (total H c. 10m) was erected to commemorate the Battle of Three Rock Mountain on 30 June 1798 when rebels surprised and defeated a detatchement of 88 men with two pieces artillery under General Fawcett (anon. 1921).
