Raheen moated site: square water-defence, medieval or later, now hidden under wet pasture and carpark. The ditch line still bites the earth beside modern wheels, suggesting a small fortress once kept rain, invaders and curiosity at bay.
In wet pasture, 100m E of townland boundaries with Raheenamadra and Micthelstowndown East. Not marked on OSi 6-inch maps. Potential medieval moated site identified as a square-shaped cropmark (dims. c. 31m N-S x 30m E-W) on Bórd Gáis Éireann Curraleigh West-Limerick gas pipeline aerial photographs (BGE 1/5000; 2779, Site No. 154; Strip Map 4 Site 4/5) taken 03/11/1984. Outline of square-shaped area defined by a fosse immediately E of a modern carpark, visible on Digital Globe orthoimage taken 2011-13. Partial cropmakr of monument visible on Google Earth orthoimages. Square-shaped earthwork (dims. c. 10m x 10m) in SW quadrant possibly the result of modern development is visible on Google Earth orthoimages.
