What is recorded here
Situated on a slight rise in gently undulating terrain sloping to NE, in pasture. A large, roughly square-shaped enclosure (dims. 100m N-S; 117m E-W) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 1.7m; int. H 0.44m; ext. H 1.9m) which has been partially reduced to a scarp (H 1.64m), an outer fosse (Wth 4.4m; D 0.6m) and a slight counterscarp bank (Wth 1.4m). This outer bank may be a field boundary which runs concentric with and respects the NE and SE of site. Possible external stone facing at W corner and along NW side. Internal facing evident where bank is eroded. Near the E angle at the NE side a quarry cuts into the interior with another area of quarrying along the SE side. An internal wall extends NW-SE roughly from the E corner along the SE side and into the fosse near the SW angle.
Aerial photograph (GB89.AB.26) provides panoramic view. Well preserved; interior in pasture.
