What is recorded here

On a NE-facing slope in pasture abutting the townland boundary with Knockaunroe. Earthwork (LI024-069----) located 250m to SW. The site is not recorded as an antiquity on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map but is depicted as a five sided small field located on the site of the enclosure. Clearance of these field boundaries is recorded on the 1897 OSi ed. 25-inch map. The enclosure is visible as a curving earthwork surviving on the field surface on the OSi orthoimage taken 2005-12. Visible on Digital Globe orthoimages taken 2011-2013. Identified by Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 7 AP 4/3629) as an enclosure defined by a fosse (ext. dims. c. 58m N-S; 57m E-W). Visible on ASI aerial photographic survey 2002 (ASIAP (309) 35/36). The enclosure is faintly visible on the most recent Google Earth orthoimages taken 18/11/2018. See attached Bruff survey image showing the ring-barrow labelled Bruff 7, ASI survey image showing the enclosure view SW, and Google Earth orthoimage Compiled by: Edmond O’Donovan Date of upload: 8 September 2020
