Aglishcormick Grave Yard

The medieval church of Aglishcormick or Ballynegally may have been located inside Aglishcormick graveyard (LI024-063001-). Westropp (1904-5, 443) recorded the following details on Aglishcormick; A parish in Clanwilliam, Coonagh and Small County. The chapel of Lyscormuck, 1291, Liscormyg, 1302, held with Gryen and Tuath Clugin, 1558 (Fiant, 84); Aglishcormick and Eglishcormick, 1657 (D.S. (A), 20; and Petty, 66,61) Site - There are no remains, save the glebe of Ballynegally'. Aglishcormick graveyard described in 1840 as 'a small burial place in a cultivated field. It is about 86 feet [26.2m] long and 50 feet [15.2m] wide, and is surrounded by the form of a ditch now mouldered away. Its surface is green, with a few small stones standing it is as headstones; but it is not now much in use except for children' (OSNB, 81). Within N-side of enclosure (LI024-063001-). Rectangular shaped area (dims. 3.7m N-S; 6m E-W) defined by earth and stone bank (Wth 7.9m; int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.27m) along N-side (L 7.5m) and a short return on E and W-sides (L 4m). Bank (Wth 1.25m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.2m) forms E-side (L 6m) and short return on S-side. Counterscarp (Wth 0.6m; H 0.45m) forms E-half of S-side (L 3.6m). Bank to N also forms graveyard enclosure NW-NE. Interior is sunken and generally level with frequent small stones (L 0.15-0.2m) strewn within.
