Moated site in Coolowley (mason)

Marked on the 1841 edition of the OS 6-inch map. Situated in gently undulating countryside. Traces of a bank at N, NE, SE, S and SW delimit an almost square area (dims. 28.4m NE-SW, 30m NW-SE). No evidence of fosse or original entrance. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P.
