Mine in Monagoush

Mine

What is recorded here

The mines at Mine Head were originally owned by Sir Walter Raleigh, but were later sold to Sir Richard Boyle. They were renouned for the high quality of the ore, but might not have survived beyond the 1641 rebellion (Power 1978a, 32). Mine Head is probably named from them, but the location of the mines is unknown. Power, T. (1978a) Richard Boyle’s ironworks in Co. Waterford. Part 2. Decies, No. 7, 30-36.
