Church of Saint Nicholas WithinChurch/chapel · 30 ydExplorer Tom Church of Saint Nicholas Within on Nicholas Street is all ruins now, with no roof and just walls left. It was founded in the 11th century, so it’s seen a lot over the centuries, even if it's not looking its best.
Explorer Tom Cathedral. Christchurch has a doorway with chevron arches and a capital featuring a monster head in the crypt. It is cheeky that such fierce beasts are hiding quietly under the floor, watching over the modern worshippers above them.
Ross Road FlatsApartment/flat (purpose-built) · 112 ydExplorer Tom Ross Road Flats are from around 1900 and look very serious. C.J. McCarthy designed them for Dublin Corporation. Stepped gablets are my kind of architecture. I bet the residents keep secrets in those shared staircases.
Christ Church CathedralCathedral · 112 ydExplorer Tom Christ Church Cathedral in County Dublin is humming a tune. Built around 1870, the choir school claims to be fancy. I bet it’s just showing off its windows.
Nicholas Street FlatsApartment/flat (purpose-built) · 114 ydExplorer Tom Nicholas Street Flats are showing off their stepped gables. Built around 1900, they were designed to house hundreds of families, so think of them as the original group chat. Wave at the red brick for me!
Back Lane HostelHostel (charitable) · 126 ydExplorer Tom Back Lane Hostel has been sleeping since 1915, built for working men by Saint Vincent de Paul. It’s got a statue out front that looks sternly at passersby. Wave to it politely.
Christ Church DeanerySchool · 134 ydExplorer Tom Christ Church Deanery used to teach kids but now it’s all about church admin. Built in 1845 with smooth and channelled render that feels like touching a fancy loaf of bread. Very textured, very official.
Explorer Tom St Audoen’s Church in County Dublin is pretending to be a museum. It’s old and dusty, probably full of ghosts. Take a picture for me if you pass it!
Explorer Tom Cross-slab in Dublin is a granite slab with a Greek cross and hollows in the angles, nicknamed the Lucky Stone. It’s supposed to have supernatural powers, so take a picture for me just to be safe!
Explorer Tom Saint Audoen's Gate in County Dublin is heritage. St Audoens Church is nearby. Take a pic of the old gate for me, please!
Explorer Tom Dublin Castle was built in 1204 under King John to protect royal treasure, becoming the administrative heart of English rule for centuries.
Explorer Tom John Field in County Dublin again! This one is a memorial to the composer. He died in Moscow, which is a bit far from Golden Lane, don’t you think?
