Mill

Mill, unclassified

What is recorded here

An eighteenth century map of Newcastle West shows a mill on Goat Street (South Quay) on the south bank of the river close to the bridge at the S end of Bridge Street (O’Connor 1998, 6-7). O’Connor (ibid.) considers this ‘probably the successor of a mill recorded circa 1586.’ There are no indications of a mill here on the 1841 OS six-inch map, nor is there any evident trace of such a structure in this location today.
