Mill Park House

Detached three-bay two-storey house, extant 1840, on an L-shaped plan; three-bay (west) or two-bay (east) two-storey side elevations. Reroofed, ----. Replacement hipped artificial slate roof on an L-shaped plan with ridge tiles, paired rendered central chimney stacks having stringcourses below chamfered capping supporting terracotta tapered pots, and cast-iron rainwater goods on rendered retaining cast-iron downpipes. Part creeper- or ivy-covered rendered walls. Central door opening into house. Square-headed window openings with cut-granite sills, and concealed dressings framing two-over-two timber sash windows. Set in landscaped grounds with rendered panelled piers to perimeter having shallow pyramidal capping supporting sheet steel-covered wrought iron double gates.

A house representing an integral component of the domestic built heritage of Enniscorthy with the architectural value of the composition suggested by such attributes as the compact place form centred on a restrained doorcase; the diminishing in scale of the openings on each floor producing a graduated visual impression; and the high pitched roofline. Having been well maintained, the elementary form and massing survive intact together with substantial quantities of the original fabric, both to the exterior and to the interior, thus upholding the character or integrity of a house having historic connections with the Lett family including Edward Joshua Lett (d. 1875) 'late of Mill Park Enniscorthy and of Ballyhamilton County Wexford [cf. 15701425]' (Calendars of Wills and Administrations 1875, 407); and George Henry Lett (d. 1903) 'late of Mill Park Enniscorthy County Wexford' (Calendars of Wills and Administrations 1904, 265).
