What is recorded here

Located on the NW side of a narrow inlet, named Clúideog, on the SE side of Inishbiggle Island. This midden was discovered in September 2018 (Pers. comm. Moira Heery and Michael Heery). It is exposed in section in the partly eroded face of a low, shoreline cliff, at a height of c. 0.3m below land surface and c. 1m above the stony shore. It is evident as a dense layer (D 0.2-0.3m) of shells, including cockles, limpets, mussels, and periwinkles. The section face is partly concealed by vegetation, but the midden layer can be traced for a length of c. 2m. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughessy Date of upload: 28 November 2018
