What is recorded here

No visible trace remains on the gravel spit east of Ahanesk House, yet countless oyster shells once scattered there. People likely stood in that exact spot, broke open fresh seafood, and dropped the heavy waste behind them. The river and time erased the surface mark, but the buried depth still holds the shape of those forgotten meals.

On N side of Ballynacorra river in estuary of Cork Harbour. Coleman (1938, 42) describes scatter of numerous oyster shells on gravel spit, 100 yards E of Ahanesk House. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994).
