In a shallow depression, a limestone slab stands upright, its rough southern face untouched while the northern edge carries a faded praise for Michael Reidy and a warning about pride. The barbed wire cuts the grass into a small chamber, forcing the viewer to approach the dead woman rather than pass her by. Bridget Caherlough may have fallen where she stood, her body swallowed by the field before the stone arrived to name her. The wire does not keep out intruders; it keeps the living honest, reminding them that even forgotten love needs a visible mark to resist forgetting.

Situated on a NE-facing slope with wide views to N. Surrounded by a barbed-wire fence. A limestone memorial stone (Wth 0.75m; H 1.5m; T 0.13-0.15m) set upright and oriented WNW-ESE with a crude inscription on the N side. The S side is rough and unfinished. The inscription reads ‘This stone was erected by Michael Reidy in memory of this moth.. Bridget Cah(?)ikawll(?) died in the year 1795 aged 61.’ The name after Bridget may be Caherlough, the townland to the E of this location. There is a large ‘IHS’ above the inscription in very low relief. The top edge of the stone curves up and down as in 18th-century headstones. According to local information the stone lay flat until the field was reclaimed in the 1970s and did not mark a burial. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 8 August 2016
