Melmerby High Scar is a sea cliff composed mainly of Carboniferous limestone, formed around 340 to 320 million years ago through the accumulation of marine sediments. It is notable for its exposure of geological strata and its role in illustrating the coastal erosion processes along the English Lake District's western edge.
