Megalithic tomb in Poulnabrucky

Megalithic tomb

What is recorded here

You can picture the dead lying beneath stones so large they defied reason, while the living watched the sky turn above them. The tomb still belongs to County Clare, unchanged except for time and weather. It is not a display or a warning. It is a chamber built for continuity, where human life stopped but human intention continued.
See linked document with details from Ruaidhrí de Valera and Seán Ó Nualláin, Survey of the Megalithic Tombs of Ireland. Volume I. County Clare. (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1961). Date of upload: 24 December 2011
Portal dolmen; dates to the Neolithic period, around 3500–2500 BCE. It is one of the best-preserved megalithic tombs in Ireland and is significant for its architectural complexity and association with early farming communities in the region.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
