Megalithic structure in An Lóthar

Megalithic structure

What is recorded here

Graves recorded a megalithic tomb at Loher, near Darrynane (1864, 180). He described a twenty-four foot (7.3m) long chamber which was covered by a huge block exhibiting cup-shaped hollows. His investigation of the 'subterraneous chamber' produced charcoal fragments and a portion of a charred bone. It is possible that this and KE106-089---- are the same site. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 96. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 28 July 2013
