What is recorded here
Maurice FitzGerald, 3rd Lord of Offaly, was born in 1238 in County Wexford, Ireland, the second son of Maurice FitzGerald, 2nd Lord of Offaly and Juliana de Grenville. He became Justiciar of Ireland in 1272, leading a family that fused Gaelic and Norman customs until they were called more Irish than the Irish themselves. Others claim the Offaly lordship passed to his brother's line instead, leaving Maurice to wield power through conquest and alliance rather than hereditary right.
