A mass-rock associated with the celebration of Catholic Mass during the Penal Times; such sites were often linked to local priests and communities who practiced their faith in secret. The surviving fragment of the rock at Clonsast reflects a broader tradition of resistance and devotion in Ireland under religious persecution.
