What is recorded here

Doaghs Lower is an area in County Derry where people farmed, fished and built towers during the nineteenth century. The area is not a single named place on a modern map, but it is the kind of coastal locality where British and Irish life mixed under military rule. Some buildings still stand, some have vanished, and the sea has taken others. What remains is a boundary marker, a tower base or a field name that preserves the shape of doaghs lower.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as MARTELLO TOWER ON MAGILLIGAN POINT. Recorded period: C19TH. Recorded protection: State Care. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
