Maria Ann Campion was born in County Waterford in 1775 and became a celebrated Irish actress before dying young in London. She overcame severe stage fright in Dublin, married actor Alexander Pope, and performed across England until illness took her at twenty-six. Her life moved quickly from provincial beginnings to famous stages, ending with burial in Westminster Abbey beside her husband's first wife.
