Man-made underground passage in Turlough (ballymoe By.)

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

No amount of thinking can force a human muse to invent inside a sacred vessel. Better to leave the chamber empty than to pollute it with phantom detail.
In S half of a ringfort (GA007-120----). Poorly preserved Man-made underground passage indicated by an L-shaped hollow. The long axis (L 9m) runs N-S, and the shorter axis (L 6m) extends off SE end and runs E-W. No stonework is visible. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
