Under the northwest quadrant of a West Cork ringfort, people cut a five-metre passage through living rock, then built chambers large enough to hold breath, memory or fear. Collapse broke the ceiling in two places, dumping dirt and darkness into the work, yet the cut edges still show human intention beneath the ruin. Perhaps the residents dug downward when storms came, hid what they valued, or simply wanted the earth to stop listening. The hole remains wide enough for wonder and narrow enough to keep its secret.

In NW quadrant of ringfort (CO105-02401-) a large collapse occured which has been partially backfilled. According to local information the Man-made underground passage is rock cut and runs for c. 5m to N of collapse. There are two further openings in the vicinity indicating other chambers.
