Man-made underground passage in Rahealy

Situated in the centre of a long, narrow arable field which is gently sloping S, univallate cahir KE009-051---- consists of a large circular area enclosed by a stone bank, which is now grass covered. The interior is at a higher level than the surrounding land, and in the NW sector is a large mound, 5m x 9m and .8m high. 'Cave' (KE009-051001-) is marked on the 1841-42 OS map, so the mound may signify where the chamber of a Man-made underground passage lies. SE of this is a roughly rectangular stone-lined area; the stone surface gives off a hollow sound when tapped. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’.
