Man-made underground passage in Moneygaff East

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Three earth-cut chambers breathe beneath Moneygaff East, one collapsed into shadow while the others remain visible through a ringfort opening. The passage feels less like a ruin and more like a hidden room waiting to be remembered. People may have walked there in darkness, carrying breath and intention into the earth.
Three earth-cut chambers, one much collapsed, seen through opening in interior of ringfort (CO094-03401-). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
