Under the Louth Hall motte, a man-made passage waits in darkness, remembered through local tradition rather than measured stone. Children may have whispered about it before adults stopped them, imagining a tunnel that bypassed the hall entirely. The story keeps the underground alive because people still believe the ground hides a route no map admits.
