Man-made underground passage in Lissaniska (costello By.)

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Lissaniska in Costello, County Mayo, lost its visible rath when men levelled the earth, yet local memory insists a stone-built passage still breathes beneath the soil. The site may hide a forgotten chamber, a trading vault or a refuge carved before the fields swallowed it. What remains is a ghost of architecture, waiting under ordinary grass for someone curious enough to listen.
Located in a rath (MA092-067) which has been levelled. According to local information, there is a stone-built Man-made underground passage in the interior of the rath. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 17 May 2022
