Man-made underground passage in Lateeve

This site, not marked on the OS maps, consists of a rectangular chamber located in an area of level ground on land that otherwise slopes down steeply to N and overlooks Portmagee Channel. A short passage, 1m long, leads to a narrow opening, .9m high and .45m wide, which gives access to the drystone-built chamber. Its walls are regularly coursed and corbel slightly towards the five roofing slabs. The floor is paved with small irregular slabs, and there is a considerable build-up of silt against the N end-wall. The chamber, aligned N-S, is 3.15m long, .7m wide and 1.2m high. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J.
