Under the Knocknahila rath, a hidden passage may still cut through solid rock. Local tradition claims people dug it rather than water carving it, suggesting hands and purpose behind the darkness. The absence of written proof does not empty the claim; it returns the story to the people who first spoke it.

There is no mention of a possible Man-made underground passage in the published entry for the rath (KE021-102----) (see Toal 1995, 191, no. 762). However, from the information on the cover sheet for this Man-made underground passage record in the SMR file, the source would appear to be 'based on local tradition'.
