What is recorded here
Knockane holds a man-made underground passage inside a ringfort, marked as a cave on the 1841 Ordnance Survey map. The passage may have let people move through the fort when storms, invaders or darkness closed the land above. It is the kind of hidden road that makes an ordinary field sound like a house still breathing.
A 'Cave' is marked on the OS 6-inch map (surveyed 1841) in a ringfort (KE014-059----): both are recorded on subsequent editions of the OS maps. It is likely that the 'Cave' may be a Man-made underground passage. (Toal 1995, no. 820)
