What is recorded here

Kilphillibeen holds a buried passage inside its ringfort, now filled and vanished from sight. The loss is not empty; it is a shape remembered through absence. People may have crawled through darkness, hidden goods, or fled danger beneath the fort. What is gone can still be seen in the way the land refuses to forget it.
In ringfort (CO046-041001-); 'Man-made underground passage now filled in' (UCC). No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
