Inishbeg Island holds a vanished underground passage, blocked in the 1940s and now absent even from memory. It lay west of the boulder burial, hidden beneath a field on the Ilen River estuary. The passage may have served as shelter, storage or a secret route for people who lived beside the water. Its disappearance reminds us that some human workings leave no trace at all, not even a hole in the ground.

On Inishbeg Island, in the estuary of the Ilen River. According to local information, there is a Man-made underground passage, which was blocked up in the 1940s and of which there are now no visible remains, in a field to the W of the boulder-burial (CO150-004----).
