Donegall Castle belonged to the O Driscoll clan on Ringarogy Island until men ferried its stones to Skibbereen in 1826. They built the Pro Cathedral with taken marrow, leaving behind a grassy scar where pride once stood. The channel still flows past the empty space, carrying the shape of what was stolen into the sea.

On NE tip of Ringarogy Island, overlooking channel of Ilen estuary. Raised platform (22m N-S; 34m E-S; H c. 0.75m) with low grass covered undulations indicates area of site; stones from castle were ferried, in 1826, to Skibbereen to build the Pro Cathedral.
