Under the Greenville demesne in County Cork, hidden chambers once connected by narrow passages, waiting beneath a shallow depression still visible today. Lewis wrote of their discovery in 1837, capturing a moment when the earth gave up its secret rooms. Perhaps people crawled through those tight spaces to trade, hide or simply wonder at the darkness. The ground keeps its shape while human memory fades, leaving only the suggestion of rooms that no longer answer knocks.

In enclosure (CO083-036001-), close to bank to S. Lewis (1837, vol. 2, 178) noted the discovery of 'several apartments, communicating by narrow passages' in an 'ancient rath' on the demesne of Greenville. Shallow depression may indicate position.
