Under Gowlane South, a passage may still exist beneath the earth, hidden and waiting. A shallow pit on the eastern edge of the ringfort marks the place where roof and wall collapsed together, folding the tunnel back into soil. People walked that dark space before memory faded, carrying breath and shadow through rock.

Hartnett (1939, 188) noted 'a shallow pit' in E side of ringfort (CO050-095001-) which may indicate position of collapsed Man-made underground passage; also local tradition of underground passage.
