No visible trace remains, yet an underground passage still crosses the road north and south inside the Gortavehy East ringfort. Broker wrote in 1937 that two big flags lay exposed in the roadway, marking the hidden tunnel beneath the bisecting track. The absence of a visible entrance makes the passage more striking: human hands built a route through solid ground, then the road and soil conspired to conceal it.
