Man-made underground passage in Drumagh (gallen By.)

In a cashel (MA050-007001-). There is a surface opening (2m N–S; 0.8m E–W; D 1m) into the Man-made underground passage on the W side of a slightly sunken area of stony ground in the N of the cashel interior, close to the enclosing wall. The opening gives onto the W end of a roughly oblong chamber (2.2m E–W; 1.3m N−S at W end) of drystone construction, roofed with stone slabs. The floor is covered with an accumulated layer of loose earth and debris; the height of the chamber above current floor level is 0.6m. The chamber is widest and rectangular in shape at the W end, but tapers to a narrow rounded end at E. A single flat slab lies on the floor at its E end. A lintel can be seen built into the chamber wall at E, just above current floor level; it may cover a creep leading E. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 12 June 2020
