What is recorded here

Cookstown preserves a man-made underground passage inside a round fort, though local memory has faded. The lost cave may have served as a shelter, treasury or ritual chamber, but no witness remains to confirm its purpose. Darkness and forgetting have claimed the chamber, leaving only the cut stone and a vanished tradition behind.

In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
