Man-made underground passage in Clashanure — Report the wrong picture

What is recorded here

No visible trace remains, only a closed passage to the southwest of the ringfort centre. Whether it served as a refuge, a treasury or a forgotten way of leaving the fort is no longer certain. What is clear is that people shaped the earth beneath Clashanure and later denied that shape by closing it.

In ringfort (CO072-113001-). Hartnett (1939, 132) noted 'to the SW of the centre of this fort is what I was told was a Man-made underground passage which has been closed up'. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997).
