Man-made underground passage in Cavangarden

A rock-cut Man-made underground passage which seems to have exploited a natural fissure in a rock outcrop. It is' 8.18m long SSW-NNE and widens from .73m at the S end to .84m at the N. It is 1.35m high at its N, increasing to 1.8m near the middle, then sloping to 1m towards the S entrance. It is unroofed for c. 5m, but the remainder is roofed with flagstones. There are some packing stones at the N end adjoining the roof. The only internal feature is a niche .8m wide, .75m high, 1m deep on the floor near the N end. It is situated in an area of rock outcrop surrounded by pasture. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal.
