Carrigaline West holds a man-made underground passage beside an old ringfort, waiting for boots and lantern light. A ploughman once struck the deep hole by chance, pulling back a veil that had closed since the stones were set. The passage may have served as a shelter, a treasury or a trick of the land, but its depth suggests human intent rather than accidental collapse.

Near ringfort (CO086-057---). According to O'Leary (198, 122) 'ploughman discovered a deep hole near the lios, which points to the presence of a Man-made underground passage'.
