Carrickykelly holds a man-made underground passage hidden inside a rath on a low rise. Local tradition calls it a cave, suggesting people dug or shaped the dark before it vanished from common memory. The passage may have served as shelter, storage or a private route through the undulating landscape. Its exact purpose has faded, but the rath still marks the place where human hands reached into the earth.
