Man-made underground passage in Ballintober

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Situated on a slight rise, in pasture. In the NW quadrant of ringfort (WM031-048----) are the remains of a Man-made underground passage. The exposed portion of the Man-made underground passage (dims. L 3.5m; Wth 1.2m) may represent the entrance. The roof of the passage is covered by stone lintels and the side walls are defined by drystone corbelling constructed of small boulders. On the surface to SW a depression runs inside the bank which may represent the remains of a collapsed Man-made underground passage passage. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien. Date of upload: 13 November 2019
