Man-made underground passage

Within N Half of a ringfort (GA029-001----). Well-preserved drystone-built Man-made underground passage consisting of three chambers connected by two creeps; known locally as 'Gurranes cave' (Costello 1903, 1). Present access via a displaced roof lintel into a short passage (L 2.1m) at SE end of 1st chamber (L 6.5) which runs NW-SE. A creep at NW end leads to 2nd chamber (L 11.5m) running NE-SW. Another creep at SW end of this chamber leads to 3rd chamber (L. 6.3m) running NNE-SSW. Costello (ibid., 2) noted the existence of two air vents at S end of 3rd chamber, only one of which survives.
