In the late 1930s and 1940s, Sir Malcolm Campbell, 1885‒1948, world water speed record holder, tested and developed Bluebird on this lake, known locally as Campbell’s Lake
Sir Malcolm Campbell, a renowned British speed record breaker, used the lake, locally known as Campbell’s Lake, as a testing site for his Bluebird speedboat in the late 1930s and 1940s. The site is significant for its association with Campbell’s efforts to break the world water speed record.
