What is recorded here
Lisheenpastia is a children's burial ground hidden inside a possible rath in County Mayo. Local tradition and the placename agree that small bodies were laid to rest within the earthworks, though ploughs and time have levelled the graves from sight. The name still carries the shape of what was lost, while nearby raths and another burial ground suggest a whole landscape once marked for the dead.
Within a possible rath (MA038-018001-). The placename, ‘Lisheenpastia’, and local tradition record that the interior of the possible rath was used as a children’s burial ground. It has been levelled; there is no visible evidence of graves at ground level. There is another children’s burial ground (MA018-019002-) within a possible rath (MA038-019001-) 180m to SSE, and another possible rath (MA038-020----) is located c. 190m to SE.
