What is recorded here
Lisheen is a children's burial ground in County Galway, Ireland, but no visible surface trace survives. The name appears on an old map, suggesting a sacred quiet place beside the earthwork at Carrowkeelanahglass. Whatever was buried there has vanished under grass, time or forgetting, leaving only the word to mark the loss.
Associated with an earthwork (GA042-043----). Although named 'Lisheen' on 1st ed. of OS 6-inch map, suggesting the presence of a CBG, no visible surface trace survives.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
